• Adult Education

Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Region 5 Adult Education provides adult learners with the knowledge, abilities, and credentials necessary for success. Students gain the skills needed to improve employment opportunities by increasing basic education; digital literacy; job readiness expertise; and speaking, reading, and writing English. In addition, Adult Education partners with area training providers by offering academic support to students who are seeking to earn workforce-preparation credentials.

Region 5 Adult Education provides several opportunities for students:

    GED Preparation

GED Preparation & Adult Basic Education classes provide all types of learners with an opportunity to master the basic academic and workplace skills needed to establish or improve individual career pathways. Students without a high school credential will work toward passing the GED® tests, but anyone who wants a basic academic refresher can enroll.

    National External Diploma Program

The National External Diploma Program is a way for students over 18 to earn an adult high school diploma. Clients work independently online, on their own schedules, to show knowledge by completing assignments in 10 competency areas instead of taking timed tests. If you need a high school diploma but don't do well on timed tests, the NEDP might be for you.

    English as a Second Language

Learners will improve skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English to help prepare them to live their best lives at work, home, and the community at large. Basic math skills, workforce preparation activities, and community resources are also incorporated into the weekly lessons.
