    Apply to Teach in RCPS!

The Roanoke City School Board approved a 5% salary increase for employees throughout the division in the 2023-2024 school year! Starting teacher pay is $49,656.
Our teachers are at the heart of our mission to empower all students to dream, excel, and meet their full potential to benefit our city and its citizens. As part of the RCPS team, you will be able to make a direct, positive impact on the students you teach, while also experiencing your own growth inside and outside of the classroom.

A full list of available positions can be found on our application portal. In particular, we are seeking teachers in the following areas:

    • Secondary math and science teachers
    • Elementary teachers
    • Special Education teachers

We have strong support and structure in place to ensure our teachers have what they need to succeed as educators. In turn, our teachers are able to provide our students with what they need to succeed. RCPS leads the Roanoke Valley in teacher pay, and our total compensation package includes competitive benefits, including no-cost medical and dental plans and membership in the Virginia Retirement System.

RCPS also offers high-quality courses and workshops through our dedicated Department of Professional Learning. In addition, our Human Resources team offers unique resources and support for new educators and teachers of color, such as Boosting Opportunities for New & Diverse Staff (BONDS). This mentoring program is designed specifically to reach and support teachers of color working in RCPS. BONDS helps newly hired educators to stay motivated and focused and provides an instant network of collegial support.

We also provide support and guidance to future teachers, including college students who are currently in an education program and career-switchers. Reach out to our Human Resources team to discover how you can become an RCPS teacher!
