The purpose of Roanoke City Public Schools' literacy education is to provide a literacy foundation that enables students to become lifelong learners and contributing members and leaders of the global community.Our goals are to:- Ensure students are reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade
- Embed authentic literacy across all content areas
- Effectively implement the Science of Reading
- Have students read and write in every class every day
- Structure classes so students can participate in communication and develop multimodal presentations
- Inspire students to read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts
- Teach students to write in a variety of styles
- Learn and practice research skills
