    The purpose of Roanoke City Public Schools' literacy education is to provide a literacy foundation that enables students to become lifelong learners and contributing members and leaders of the global community.
     
    Our goals are to:
    • Ensure students are reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade
    • Embed authentic literacy across all content areas
    • Effectively implement the Science of Reading
    • Have students read and write in every class every day
    • Structure classes so students can participate in communication and develop multimodal presentations
    • Inspire students to read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts
    • Teach students to write in a variety of styles
    • Learn and practice research skills
