• DAYTEC classes begin in August 2023 in temporary alternate locations. The DAYTEC building will open in January 2024. More information is coming soon!

The Charles W. Day Technical Education Center (DAYTEC) will be one of Roanoke City Public Schools' program schools for high school students. DAYTEC was created to increase provide equitable academic opportunities in Career & Technical Education (CTE) and expand seat capacity for these classes. DAYTEC will be located adjacent to William Fleming High School, in the former William Ruffner Middle School. Classes begin in August 2023 in temporary alternate locations, and the building will open in January 2024.

Students who take CTE classes graduate with the technical, academic, and employability skills that provide them with a competitive advantage in their chosen field. This means students graduate with both a diploma and a resume of rich skills and experiences that will benefit them on their college and career paths, and the Roanoke Valley community benefits from a new generation who is ready, willing, and more than capable of entering today's workforce.

Students are encouraged to explore CTE programs in grades 9 and/or 10, and then select a major program area of study for grades 11 and 12. Most CTE courses offer students the ability to earn dual enrollment through Virginia Western Community College, and all programs offer students the opportunity to earn industry certifications within their program of study.
