• We are excited that DAYTEC opened in January 2024! A Grand Opening Celebration will be held in Spring 2024 to cut the ribbon and celebrate.

The Charles W. Day Technical Education Center (DAYTEC) is one of Roanoke City Public Schools' program schools for high school students. Students take Career & Technical Education (CTE) classes at  DAYTEC, where they graduate with the technical, academic, and employability skills that provide them with a competitive advantage in their chosen field. Our students graduate with both a diploma and a resume of rich skills and experiences that will benefit them on their college and career paths, and the Roanoke Valley community benefits from a new generation that is ready, willing, and more than capable of entering today's workforce.

DAYTEC opened in January 2024 following renovations of the former William Ruffner Middle School, located adjacent to William Fleming High School. The creation of DAYTEC has doubled CTE seat capacity and ensures that all high school students have equitable opportunities to take CTE classes.

Students are encouraged to explore CTE programs in grades 9 and/or 10, and then select a major program area of study for grades 11 and 12. Most CTE courses offer students the ability to earn dual enrollment through Virginia Western Community College, and all programs offer students the opportunity to earn industry certifications within their program of study.
