The following is a comprehensive list of annual notices, policies, and procedures required to be made available to the public, consistent with state and federal laws or regulations. Some of these policies and procedures are available in our Parent Handbook, which is sent home annually with students and is also available online.

Students may be opted out of animal dissection at the request of their parent/guardian and provided with an alternate assignment.
In accordance with the Asbestos Hazards Emergency Response Act (AHERA), all Roanoke City schools have been inspected to meet required compliance.
RCPS makes public its annual budget and other financial reports.
Annual CTE Notice
Every RCPS employee who has reason to suspect that a child is an abused or neglected child is required to report the matter to the appropriate authorities.
All students in RCPS receive free breakfast and lunch under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
The annual Student Code of Conduct provides information related to student behavior, rights, and responsibilities.
Section 22.1-92, Code of Virginia, requires school divisions to prepare and post "notification of the estimated average per pupil cost for public education in the school division for the coming year" as well as "actual per pupil stated and local education expenditures for the previous school year."
Each school provides academic, career, and personal/social counseling services that are available to all students.
In order to earn a diploma and graduate from a Virginia high school, students must earn standard units of credit and verified units of credit.
RCPS uses certain protocols in the event of an emergency or critical incident. Please contact your school for more school-specific emergency procedures.
RCPS provides programs to support students for whom English is a second language.
The School Board charges student fees and takes action to recover funds for the loss of or damage to School Board property in accordance with state and federal law.
Most Virginia students graduate with either an Advanced Studies Diploma or a Standard Diploma.
RCPS supports students and families experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in accordance with the federal McKinney-Vento Act.
Roanoke City Public Schools is committed to complying with the Privacy Protection Act of 1976, Virginia Code (1950), as amended, Section 2.1-377 et. seq.
RCPS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, age, sex, disability, national origin, pregnancy, or marital status in its programs and activities, and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
The education of each student is a responsibility shared by the school and the student’s family. RCPS encourages the regular participation of parents and family members of all students.

RCPS' high schools and Career & Technical Education Centers maintain programs of studies with a listing of classes offered.
The promotion of a student from one grade level to the next is based primarily on the successful completion of work required at the specific grade level of the student.
The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) affords certain rights regarding conducting surveys, collection and use of information for marketing purposes, and certain physical exams.
Federal law and School Board policies require schools, with certain exceptions, to obtain written consent from a student’s parent/guardian prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the student’s education records. However, schools may disclose "directory information" without written consent unless families opt out.
Families may opt their student out of directory information being provided to military recruiters and higher educational institutions.

The Roanoke Valley Regional Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is housed at Virginia Heights Elementary School.
The Roanoke City Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) promotes the education of children and youth with disabilities. SEAC provides advice and guidance to the Superintendent and the Roanoke City School Board.
SNAP provides nutrition benefits to supplement the food budget of families so they can purchase healthy food.

Due to the health dangers of tobacco and nicotine vapor products, no persons are permitted to use or distribute any tobacco product or nicotine vapor product on a school bus, on school property, or at an on-site or off-site school-sponsored activity at any time.
