GEAR UP for a major milestone

Group of William Fleming students holding the Mission Accepted SignThis year marks a major milestone for students enrolled in GEAR UP.  It is a federally funded program that prepares students for life after high school.  The goal of GEAR UP is to increase student enrollment in college.

Since seventh grade, 600 students have participated in workshops, received counseling, and even visited college campuses.  For example, GEAR UP students from Lucy Addison Middle visited the University of Virginia in 8th grade.  Here are pictures from that visit:

These students are now seniors!  This year, GEAR UP moves into overdrive as students graduate and get ready for college.  They will continue receive support during their first year of college.  This week, GEAR UP students at William Fleming High School learned all about applying for scholarships and financial aid.

GEAR UP also provides scholarship money to some students.  This spring, we look forward to sharing the future plans of the GEAR UP students.
