Candidates must possess or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license. Preference will be given to fully licensed candidates with five-year renewable licenses, and Provisionally licensed candidates may not be interviewed as a result.

Registration deadline is February 7, 2018.

Pre-registration is required in order to attend. 

Once maximum enrollment is achieved, we will notify candidates via e-mail whom we are not able to accommodate.

Candidates will be pre-screened based on qualifications, including, but not limited to:

  • License status / type / eligibility / endorsements (recommended to include a copy of teaching credential with application)
  • Years of teaching experience
  • Educational credentials (transcripts are required for application to be complete)
  • Student teachers in Roanoke City Schools with recommendation from supervising teacher
  • Current Roanoke City Schools employees in non-teaching roles

*Interview preference will be given to Middle School candidates who are dual endorsed in two of the four core areas (Math, Science, English, History/Social Science).

**Interview preference will be given to secondary education candidates that are eligible to teach Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment courses (18 graduate level hours required in subject area).

***Elementary education candidates will also complete a 30 minute activity in addition to their 30 minute interview.



Each qualified candidate will be granted a single 30 minute interview by a RCPS Principal, Instructional Coordinator, or other Administrator.

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your interview time in order to sign-in/register at the fair.

Individuals interviewing for elementary classroom positions will also be required to complete a 30 minute activity at the event, which will be completed prior to each scheduled interview time. Details regarding both the activity start time and interview time will be communicated to each candidate.  All details of the activity will be provided to candidates at the event, and no work is required by candidates prior to the event.  Elementary candidates are urged to arrive 15 minutes prior to their activity time in order to sign-in/register.



All candidates – whether existing RCPS employees or otherwise – must pre-register by completing an application for employment via our online application system.

Please check your e-mail address for accuracy on your online application, as all details of the fair, including interview times, will be communicated to candidates via e-mail. Additionally, in order to receive our e-mails to you regarding the fair, please ensure that jobfair@rcps.info is not blocked by your spam or e-mail filters!

Please note that you must complete the “Teaching/Professional” online application for employment, and complete all fields, including teacher licensure / certification data. The licensure information included in your application will determine your eligibility to attend the fair, so be sure to be as accurate as possible regarding your license type and endorsements. If you do not currently hold a license, but will be completing an approved program in 2018 from which you will receive a teaching license, please indicate your "Certificate Type" as "Application Pending", or indicate the type of teaching certificate you will receive upon completion of your program ("Collegiate Professional", "Postgraduate Professional", etc). If you are able to electronically attach a copy of your teaching credential to your application, we strongly recommend doing so, as it expedites the review and processing of your application.

Additionally, you will be required to provide transcripts as part of your application, and you are strongly encouraged to electronically attach transcripts directly to your application (unofficial transcripts are acceptable, as are scanned copies of transcripts). Interviews will not be scheduled without transcripts included as part of your application. We strongly recommend uploading any completed test scores to your application as well.

If you are unable to electronically attach transcripts (or other attachments) to your application yourself, you may submit hard copies to our office via the address below. Once received, we will scan/upload them to your application.

Once your application is complete, you will be able to apply for available positions within our district for which you are eligible. IN ORDER TO REGISTER FOR THE JOB FAIR, you must click to apply for the Teaching/Professional job entitled “Job Fair Registration 2018 – February 17, 2018”. If you do not apply for this specific job posting title, you will not have submitted an application for the fair.

Within 7 business days of applying (by completing the online application and applying for “Job Fair Registration 2018 – February 17, 2018”), you will receive an e-mail confirming the receipt of your application, as well as confirmation regarding your interview eligibility for the fair, and activity/interview time (if applicable). 

Previous attendees will not be scheduled for the event, as it is intended for individuals who have not yet had an opportunity to interview.
