The purpose of Roanoke City Public School literacy education is to provide a literacy foundation that enables students to become lifelong learners and contributing members and leaders of the global community.
  • Ensure students are reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade
  • Embed authentic literacy across all content areas
  • Effectively implement the Science of Reading
  • Read and write in every class everyday
  • Participate in communication and develop multimodal presentations
  • Read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts
  • Write in a variety of styles
  • Learn and practice research skills
