English Language Arts
The purpose of Roanoke City Public School literacy education is to provide a literacy foundation that enables students to become lifelong learners and contributing members and leaders of the global community.
- Ensure students are reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade
- Embed authentic literacy across all content areas
- Effectively implement the Science of Reading
- Read and write in every class everyday
- Participate in communication and develop multimodal presentations
- Read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts
- Write in a variety of styles
- Learn and practice research skills
