The purpose of Title I is to provide supplementary resources to students who attend schools in high economically challenged areas. Additional assistance in reading and mathematics is provided by Reading and Math Specialists to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards. Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to meeting the goals and objectives of the Every Student Successes Act of 2015.

The Title I program offers supplemental services in reading and/or math to students in Roanoke City. Services are available in 15 elementary schools, three middle schools, and one high school. These schools are staffed with instructional coaches, reading specialists, math teachers, teaching assistants, and instructional assistants.

Afterschool Program

Afterschool instructional programs are offered at Title I elementary schools. Teachers will provide extended learning opportunities to students in grades 1-5. Students served in this program are those children most at-risk of performing below the benchmark on the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests.
