Roanoke City Public Schools
2017 Benefits Enrollment

Our employees are our most valuable asset.

That’s why at Roanoke City Public Schools we are committed to a comprehensive employee benefit program that helps our employees stay healthy, feel secure, and maintain a work/life balance.

Benefits include:

  • Medical Plans and Vision Plans

  • Dental Plans

  • Health Flexible Spending Account

  • Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account

  • 403(b), Non-VRS 457 and Roth Retirement Account Options

  • Cancer & Accident Plans

Employees must elect or waive benefit coverage each year.

Proof of Dependent Eligibility: If adding new dependents during Open Enrollment, employees are required to submit proof of eligibility (see page 6) by the last day of the Open Enrollment period. As a New Hire or due to a Qualifying Event, proof of eligibility is also required for new dependents within 31 calendar days of the date of hire or a Qualifying Event. If ineligible dependents are found, they will be removed from the plan.

What’s New?

  • No increase in Vision and Dental rates for 2017. The Vision plan includes 2 additional lens options at no cost and a lower Materials co-pay.

  • New opportunities to invest in your future starting January 2017! You will have the opportunity to select from a greater variety of non-VRS retirement investment accounts facilitated by PenServ. We are offering additional 457(b) investment options and we are also offering post-tax Roth 403(b) and 457(b) options. You can sign up any time after 1/1/17. Additional information will be distributed in January 2017.

  • New Easier Wellness Program!  Complete a preventive physical examination no later than September 30, 2017.  For 2017, you are not required to submit any paperwork as proof of completion of wellness compliance! Instead, UnitedHealthcare will receive the physical code submitted by your provider’s office during the billing process. In 2018, due to changes in the Affordable Health Care Act, only employees have the option to participate in the wellness program.  Therefore, non-RCPS spouses will not receive a wellness incentive and are not required to complete a physical in 2017. We encourage non-RCPS spouses to obtain an annual preventive physical in 2017 as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Wellness Program

It is anticipated that if employees exhibit healthful behaviors, the result will be both a healthier workforce and reduced overall health care costs.
