School Board Policies
All current policies of the Roanoke City School Board are available through BoardDocs.
The Roanoke City schools operate according to policies established by the Roanoke City School Board. The Board, which represents the state and local community, develops policies after careful deliberation, and the school administration implements these policies through specific regulations and procedures. The Board then evaluates the effects of its policies and makes revisions as necessary.
The major policy classifications in BoardDocs are:
Section A - FOUNDATIONS AND BASIC COMMITMENTS
Section B - GOVERNANCE AND OPERATIONS
Section C - GENERAL SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION
Section D - FISCAL MANAGEMENT
Section E - SUPPORT SERVICES
Section F - FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT
Section G - PERSONNEL
Section I - INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM
Section J - STUDENTS
Section K - SCHOOL‑COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Section L - EDUCATION AGENCY RELATIONS
To ensure all policies stay compliant with state-level changes, the School Board contracts with the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) for policy services. These services include a manual containing updates and sample policies based on statutory law, case law, agency rules and regulations, and Attorney General opinions.
In the interests of harmony, efficiency, uniformity of interpretation, coordination of effort, and in fairness to all concerned, the Board makes this manual available online to all who are affected by its policies. However, individuals may call the School Board Clerk at (540) 853.1655 if additional assistance is required.
