PTA & Family Engagement

We believe everyone benefits when families, schools, and the community work together! Studies show that family engagement in schools contributes to positive student outcomes, including:

  • improved student achievement
  • decreased disciplinary issues
  • improved parent-teacher and teacher-student relationships
  • and improved school environment.

RCPS' goal is to partner with families and the community to create strong, school-based family engagement programming and meaningful relationships that support student success, opportunities, and growth.

We offer many programs and partnerships to support our families. Scroll down to learn more! If you have questions or would like more information, contact:

PTA/PTSAs
Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) and Parent Teacher Student Associations (PTSAs) offer the opportunity to join or create a chapter. The PTA is a volunteer group composed of parents, teachers, staff, and students committed to supporting and improving the educational success, safety, well-being, and health of all students. Support ranges from hosting afterschool parent engagement events at school to sponsoring field trips or activities.

Getting involved with your school's PTA is a great way to stay engaged with your student's school and what they are learning! If you are interested in joining your school's PTA, please contact your school. Contact information for schools can be found
here.

Central Council PTA
The Central Council PTA supports individual school PTA chapters. Central Council meets monthly at 6 p.m. and includes representatives from every school's PTA chapter. It unifies each PTA chapter within Roanoke City Public Schools so we can all work together in support of our students! Families who are interested in attending a Central Council meeting should reach out to their school’s PTA chapter for more information.
