Very few people knew about Magic Johnson's visit beforehand.  We wanted it to be a surprise for students.  Magic was welcomed to the stage with thunderous applause.  By the time he was finished more than 30 minutes later, Magic Johnson received a long standing ovation.  He talked about the importance of education and how teachers made a huge difference in his life.  He told the students about his own struggles with reading and how he worked hard to overcome them.  Magic encouraged them to do well in school and pursue a college degree.

"Everything that I am doing now is a reflection of my education," said Magic Johnson.

"Make sure you take advantage of this great school, this great opportunity.  You will look back and say these were the best days of my lives," Magic told the crowd in cafeteria.

"When I was your age, I had a reading problem and a teacher saved my life," said Magic Johnson.

"I hope you guys remember to get a good education.  Dream, dream big, and go after those dreams," said Magic Johnson.
