Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year is open!

Parents/guardians of children entering school for the first time must complete the secure online registration and upload required documents.

Eligibility

Children eligible to attend kindergarten in the 2026-2027 school year include:

Those who will be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2026.
Children currently enrolled in private kindergarten transferring to RCPS.
Children granted a waiver for the 2025-2026 school year and starting in August 2026.

Required Documents

Parents/guardians must upload the following during online registration:

Birth certificate (state-issued; hospital records are not accepted)
Proof of residency (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement)
Parent/guardian photo ID
Immunization record
Physical exam report (completed within 12 months before the first day of school)

Registration Instructions

Existing RCPS pre-K students: Students currently attending pre-K in Roanoke City Public Schools are not required to register to enter kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year.
New to RCPS? Create a ParentVUE account starting February 23 to register.
Have a child already enrolled in RCPS? Log in to ParentVUE to add your incoming kindergartner. If you haven't activated your account, contact your school for an activation key.

Important: If you need to pause, click “log out” in the upper right corner. To resume, log back in and select “resume registration.” You cannot return to your application once it is submitted.

Next Steps

For Existing RCPS Pre-K Students

Students who attended the RCPS pre-K program are already enrolled! Parents do not need to complete online registration.
Beginning February 23, you may bring any required documents to your child’s school.
Starting July 4, you can verify student data in ParentVUE.

For Students New to RCPS

Online registration opens February 23.
Your child’s school will contact you after registration is complete.
Use the attendance zone locator to find your child’s school.
