2022-2023 School Year
William Fleming Air Force Junior ROTC received the Outstanding Organization Award for 2022-2023.
Patrick Henry Air Force Junior ROTC received the Distinguished Unit Award for 2022-2023.
Trevor Gautier and Margaret Fuller of Patrick Henry High School were named National Cyber Scholars as a result of their participation in the CyberSmart America program.
Elizabeth Kelley of Patrick Henry High School and Craig Bailey of William Fleming High School received their National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification.
Dr. Verletta White was named the 2024 Virginia Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.
Two teams from Patrick Henry High School placed in the Governor's Challenge in Personal Finance hosted by the Virginia Council on Economic Education. Team 6-B placed second and Team 1-A placed third.

William Fleming High School Indoor Track team was named the 5D Regional Runner-Up.
Keith Richardson, Darren McCoy, Kam'ron Dillard and Edward Yonda of William Fleming High School were the 5D Regional Runner-up in the 4x200m relay.
Malachi Coleman of William Fleming High School was named the 5D Regional Champion and placed second at states in the 55m high hurdles.
Tequan Martin of William Fleming High School placed second at states in the long jump.
Darren McCoy of William Fleming High School was the 5D Regional Champion in the triple jump and placed third at states in the long jump.

Ms. Johnson and Mr. Reisenbeck of Roanoke Technical Education Center at Gibboney Hall were chosen by the Virginia Council on Economic Education to be Teacher Fellows and will train teachers in topics related to Economics and Personal Finance.
Superintendent Verletta White was named Virginia's Region 6 Superintendent of the Year by her fellow superintendents in Western Virginia.

The 2022 Roanoke City Public Schools’ graduating class has 17 student athletes who have been recruited and will play at the collegiate level, for sports including lacrosse, track, soccer, swimming, football and basketball.
Quiana Fields of James Breckinridge Middle School was named Best Educator – Platinum by Roanoker Magazine during the 2021-2022 school year.
Fishburn Park Elementary was named Best Public School – Platinum by Roanoker Magazine during the 2021-2022 school year.

The Patrick Henry High School Chamber Choir earned a Superior rating on Stage and Sight Reading at the District Choral Assessment during the 2021-2022 school year.
The Patrick Henry High School Women’s Choir earned a Superior rating on Stage and Sight Reading at the District Choral Assessment during the 2021-2022 school year.

RCPS has received the award for excellence in budget presentation for five years in a row.
Roanoke City Public Schools' Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the year ended June 30, 2020 has been recognized by both the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for excellence in financial reporting.
This is the 25th consecutive year that Roanoke City Public Schools’ Comprehensive Annual Financial Report has received this distinction.

The Patrick Henry Marching Patriots received a Superior Rating at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director's Association Competition.
Coach Brooke Gray of William Fleming High School was selected as the Blue Ridge District Softball Co-Coach of the Year.
Coach Tyler Rankin of William Fleming High School was selected as the Blue Ridge District Baseball Co-Coach of the Year.
Jacob Henderson of William Fleming High School won one regional championship and one state champion in wrestling during the 2021-2022 school year.
Tra'quan Robertson of Patrick Henry High School placed 1st in wrestling at the Regional Wrestling meet and 3rd at the State Wrestling meet.
Patrick Henry and William Fleming's JROTC units both received Exceeds Standards marks during their Unit Evaluation
during the 2021-2022 school year.

Air Force Junior ROTC drill team placed fourth overall at the Virginia Drill Meet.
The Unarmed Exhibition team placed second and the Honor Guard team placed fourth overall.
Eleanor Little of Patrick Henry High School/Roanoke Valley Governor's School placed second in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair during the 2021-2022 school year.
Emma Batty of Patrick Henry High School/Roanoke Valley Governor’s School placed third in Environmental Engineering at the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair during the 2021-2022 school year.
Students in classes at Roanoke Technical Education Center (ROTEC) earned 1,676 credentials during the 2021-2022 school year.
Micah Jones of William Fleming High School was awarded the B'nai B'rith 2022 Artie Levin Personal Life Award.
Ford Beasley of Patrick Henry High School was named the 2022 Male Winner of the B’nai B’rith Athletic and Achievement Award.
Roanoke City Public Schools and Roanoke County Public Schools received three awards from the Blue Ridge Chapter of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) during the 2021-2022 school year for our partnership on Load the Bus.
Roanoke City Public Schools received an Award of Merit from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for the 2021-2028 strategic plan, The Roadmap to Student Success, and accompanying pocket guide during the 2021-2022 school year.

From the start of the pandemic on March 17, 2020 through June 30, 2021, Roanoke City Public Schools in partnership with SodexoMAGIC served more than 3 million meals.
All students receive laptops, iPad or equivalent device for school and home use.
The Roanoke Valley Governor’s School for Science and Technology (RVGS) is a specialized regional center for the advanced study of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The Community College Access Program (CCAP) allows
graduating seniors to attend Virginia Western Community College
tuition-free for up to three years.

Students from Patrick Henry and William Fleming High
School can take dual enrollment classes at Virginia Western Community
College.
Students participate in 42 different sports programs at the middle and high school levels.
RCPS offers 27 Advanced Placement (AP) courses for high school students.
Additional AP courses are offered through Virtual Virginia.



RCPS has Pre-AP/Honors Programs at all five middle schools.
All students have access to musical instruments, thanks
to a partnership with Save the Music Foundation.
Middle and high
schools have string orchestras, bands, and choral programs.
Each summer, we offer a six week summer enrichment program for rising kindergarten through rising 8th graders.
The program is free for RCPS students.
