Strategic Plan

The Roanoke City School Board approved the updated Roadmap to Student Success on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, as part of the division’s ongoing progress monitoring.

This updated plan will continue to guide Roanoke City Public Schools over the next three years, helping ensure that every student has the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive. Students, staff, families, community members, and partners all played a vital role in shaping the updates. As we often say, We Are One, and this plan reflects the power of coming together in support of our students.

The plan emphasizes key priorities through five pathways:

1. Academics & Post-Secondary Success: Focuses on literacy, academic growth, and mastery to ensure all students graduate with a diploma and a resume of skills and experiences that position them for future success.
2. Overall Well-Being & Sense of Community: Focuses on supporting students’ overall well-being by fostering environments where every student feels valued, and by encouraging engagement in activities that promote personal growth and a strong sense of community.
3. Communications & Community Engagement: Focuses on maintaining community trust through timely, transparent communication, and strengthening collaboration with families, staff, and community partners to build a united and empowered school community.
4. Recruitment, Retention, & Professiomnal Growth: Focuses on attracting and hiring a talented workforce,

   retaining staff through meaningful recognition and support, and investing in professional learning opportunities aligned with employee needs and division priorities.

5. Operations: Focuses on managing fiscal, human, and capital resources responsibly, maintaining safe learning environments, promoting sustainability and innovation, and ensuring transparency and accountability.
