RCPS Gears Up for 2011-12 School Year with Convocation on Tuesday, August 23rd

This year’s convocation will be held in the Roanoke Civic Center on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at
9 a.m. Superintendent Rita Bishop and School Board Chairman David Carson, will help set the tone for the new school year by celebrating the division’s accomplishments and outlining future goals. The convocation is the kick-off event to welcome back all teachers and RCPS staff before school officially starts.

Special performances by Westside’s step team and William Fleming’s drum line will be a part of this year’s festivities. A special recognition will take place during the conclusion of the program. Elected officials will also be recognized during convocation for their support of the Labor Day bill which enabled city students to start school early this year.
