Subject: 09/01/2009 The Community is invited to Tour New William Fleming Following the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this Thursday

The superintendent, school board members, mayor, parents, students and other dignitaries will help kick off the William Fleming ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 1pm. This will be the first opportunity for the community to come celebrate and tour the completion of the new William Fleming High School. Students and administrators will give tours of the school to the community from 1 to 7pm.

Some of the special guests include; Roanoke native and UVA Dean Dr. Billy Cannaday, Mayor David Bowers, Vice Mayor Sherman Lea, Superintendent Dr. Rita Bishop, school board members, and other elected officials. Fleming students will provide entertainment and PTA members will also be participating in the ceremony.

The previous William Fleming site opened in 1962. Construction of the new $57 million dollar high school began in October 2007. The building is designed to hold more than 1800 students. Some of the special features include:

• State of the art security features such as access control for doors
• Gym seats 3,000
• Energy efficient lighting control system
• Total square footage-330,000
• Black box theatre
• Auditorium seats 450


The new stadium at William Fleming is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2010.
