EVENT:  5-5-5 Summer Program
SCHOOL: Roanoke Technical Education Center - Gibboney
DATE/TIME:  July 19-22, and 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.
DETAILS:  The Roanoke Technical Education Center will host a summer program that provides 5th graders the opportunity to explore five careers in five days. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the following careers:
  • Culinary arts
  • Auto repair
  • Robotics
  • Web page design
  • Fashion marketing/design
  • Health and Medicine
  • Sports and entertainment
  • Marketing
  • Cosmetology
  • TV/video production
 
The event is free for students and lunch and transportation will be provided.
 
EVENT: RCPS Teacher of the Year Recognized by City Council
SCHOOL: Madison Middle School
DATE/TIME:  July 19, 2010, 2 p.m.
DETAILS:  Madison Middle teacher John Marks will be recognized by city council at 2pm on Monday, July 19, 2010 for winning the Roanoke City Teacher of the Year Competition. Marks, a math teacher and advocate for mentoring students will be recognized in the council chambers.
 
 
EVENT:  Students Grow Vegetables to Sell During Summer Program at Fishburn Park Elementary Environmental Focus School
SCHOOL: Fishburn Park Elementary Environmental Focus School
DATE/TIME:  July 28, 2010, 9-11 a.m.
DETAILS:  Students involved in the summer program at Fishburn Park Elementary Environmental Focus School will promote their vegetable stand on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 9-11a.m. The students will also have flowers and herbs to sell to the community.
