Mountain Valley Transportation will launch a new orientation program for preschool students new to Roanoke City Public Schools.
When: On August 4th from 9am to 1pm
Where: Preston Park Elementary, Fallon Park Elementary, Hurt Park Elementary, Fishburn Park Elementary, and Advance Auto Parts Corporate Office
New students and their parents will:
· Meet a bus driver and ask questions
· Board a bus and become familiar with the surroundings
· Feel the similarities of the bus safety seat compared to a car seat
· Take a short ride around the parking lot of the school
The driver will go over safety tips that will include the following:
· Danger Zones
· Handrail tips
· Emergency exits
· Star Safety Seats and the 5 point-check
Gift bags will also be provided containing:
· Activity Books
· Coloring Books w/crayons
· Stickers
· Pencils w/school bus erasers

Volunteer Appreciation
Many of our schools are holding events to thank our volunteers. Lincoln Terrace Elementary held a breakfast to thank its 100 volunteers.

Poster Winners
At its May meeting, the School Board recognized Shelby Fiddler of Grandin Court Elementary and Couron Crockett of RAMS for winning the Fair Housing Poster Contest.

The School Board also honored our school nurses. May 8 was School Nurses Day in Virginia.

Addison band honored
The School Board recognized Lucy Addison Middle School's Band for the outstanding performance at Music in the Parks in Atlanta, Georgia.

Chicks at Grandin Court
Kindergarteners at Grandin Court Elementary got to hold their chicks for the first time. When they went outside, the students put out water for the chicks, but instead they used for it a bath!
