Virginia Heights student holding a pencil and looking at the cameraThe 2016-2017 School Year is off to a great start!  As we get ready to kick-off the second half of the school year, Roanoke City Public Schools takes a look back at our accomplishments.  We can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings.  This list is impressive: 

On-time graduation rate is now 87%.

Fairview Elementary won a national award- The Les Paul Legacy Classroom Project Award.

Thanks to the generosity of countless groups and individuals, our homeless numbers are down more than a 100 students from this time last year.

The Y Splash Program expanded this year.  Every second grader received water and boat safety training thanks to a partnership with the YMCA.

Patrick Henry High School's Band will perform at Carnegie Hall in April.

William Fleming High School's DECA Club won 13 first places out of 16 categories at the Regional Competition.

Eighth, ninth, and tenth graders receive laptops for school and home use.

Round Hill Elementary's renovation project is complete.  The multi-year project includes 33 new or renovated classrooms, a new cafeteria, a new library, a new bus loop, and a renovated main office area.

Elementary school students are learning coding.

William Fleming and Patrick Henry High Schools had the highest number of students earning Microsoft Office Industry Certifications statewide, based on school size.

​Forest Park Academy will reach 1,000 graduates by the end of the school year.  Forest Park's mission is to prevent high school students from dropping out and put them on the path to graduation.

The Patrick Henry High School Chamber Orchestra will perform at the Kennedy Center in March.

We launched a successful Fine Arts Academy that is open to students from each middle school.

The Patrick Henry High School Volleyball Team won the Conference Championship; the football team made it to the Regional Quarter-Finals.

The William Fleming High School Boys Basketball Team won the K-Guard Holiday Classic for the 4th year in a row.
