Fairview Elementary wins national award

Group of Fairview students standing together with the instruments that madeThere were plenty of hugs and tears as students from Fairview Elementary learned they won a national award.  5th graders in Ms. Painter's music class have received the Les Paul Legacy Class Project Award.  Les Paul is famous for building the first electric guitar.

Fairview Elementary competed with schools all across the country.  The students had to invent and build their own musical instruments.  They also had to compose a piece of music about Les Paul.  The students were required submit a video of their work.  click here to watch the video

The Les Paul Foundation and VH1 Save the Music Foundation will donate an electric guitar and amplifier to Fairview.  The school received 30 books about Les Paul.  Watch the WDBJ-TV story here
