RCPS receives state award

picture of the cafeteria at Round Hill Elementary, there are students eating lunch at tablesSix school divisions received top honors in the 2017 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Food For Thought Competition.  The competition was divided into three catergories--Healthy School Meals, Meal Access to Fight Hunger, and Wellness and Physical Activity.  Roanoke City Public Schools was honored in the Meal Access to Fight Hunger category. 

The school system was honored during a ceremony in Richmond.  Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe presented the award to Superintendent Rita Bishop, School Board Vice-Chair Mark Cathey, and Food Services Director Ellen Craddock.
