City Attorney with several Preston Park Elementary students, holding a bookWhen City Attorney Dan Callaghan walks into Ms. Ragland's class at Preston Park Elementary, students are already asking when he'll be back.  Once a month, Mr. Callaghan reads books and poems to second graders.  It's part of the Barrister Book Buddies Program, which encourages area lawyers to read to elementary students in Roanoke City Public Schools.

Mr. Callaghan wants students to realize reading is fun.  The reason he reads poems is deeply personal.  When his son was nervous about going to pre-school, Callaghan put poems in his lunch so he could read to his friends.

Roanoke City Public Schools greatly appreciates all the attorneys who read to our students.
