The Community College Access Program (CCAP) is a public/private tuition funding program offered and administered by Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation, Inc. CCAP allows current-year high school graduates, who meet program guidelines, to receive a combination of federal/state financial aid and donor funding up to the cost of tuition. The program covers the cost of tuition for up to three (3) years at Virginia Western Community College for all accepted students. CCAP supports as many students as possible, based on student need and funds available for the program, but does not guarantee acceptance to every applicant. Textbooks are not included. Course fees and IncludED fees are not included.

New CCAP students are required to complete the Virginia Western online orientation in summer after high school graduation and to complete the online CCAP CSI Survey.

CCAP students must maintain a minimum Virginia Western cumulative 2.5 GPA (2.0 GPA for Roanoke City). Students who do not maintain the minimum cumulative GPA at the end of any semester will not be eligible to receive CCAP funds during any future semester.
Note: CCAP will pay for up to 8 credits of developmental coursework, if needed, during the first year of study at Virginia Western. CCAP will not pay for developmental coursework after the second semester of the first year.

Students must enroll in and stay enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours in a specific program of study each semester of CCAP eligibility. CCAP will pay for up to 15 credits if there is not sufficient financial aid to pay tuition. CCAP will only pay tuition (up to 15 credits) for eligible courses in a student’s program of study. CCAP does not pay for textbooks or course fees. If funding is available, students may enroll in a maximum of 6 credits during summer semester after their first year in CCAP. Stu-dents who do not maintain the minimum cumulative GPA at end of summer semester will not be eligible to receive CCAP funds during any subsequent semester.

Students participating in CCAP are required to participate in a 4 hour service learning opportunity each fall and spring semester. Failure to fulfill this requirement may result in the student being ineligible to receive future CCAP funding. 2nd Year & 3rd Year CCAP Acceptance: 1st Year CCAP students MUST submit a 2nd Year CCAP application and FAFSA for their second academic year. 2nd Year CCAP students MUST submit a 3rd Year CCAP application and FAFSA for their third academic year. The Educational Foundation will send an email to the student’s email address with application and deadline information in late fall of the student’s first semester.

Who is eligible to apply for CCAP?
• Spring 2021 graduating seniors from Botetourt County, Craig County, Franklin County, Roanoke City, Roanoke County, and Salem City Public High Schools
• Homeschool and private school 2021 graduating seniors from Botetourt County, Franklin County, Roanoke County or Salem City
• Graduating seniors must have resided in their school district and attended their division’s high school during their junior and senior years. (CCAP will not pay out-of-state tuition.)
• Roanoke County residents graduating from any high school in the six localities served by Virginia Western may apply for CCAP.
• CCAP applicants should anticipate finishing high school with a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average (GPA). A minimum 2.5 GPA is required on final high school transcript. In Roanoke City, a 2.0 cumulative GPA is required on final high school transcript.

1. SUBMIT VIRGINIA WESTERN APPLICATION at http://www.virginiawestern.edu before February 1, 2021
• You must qualify for Virginia in-state resident status.
• YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (SSN) must be included on the Virginia Western application.
• Have you taken dual-enrolled classes? Email the VWCC Recruitment team, Allison Dooley at adooley@virginiawestern.edu or Rebecca Kraemer at rkraemer@virginiawestern.edu to confirm your Virginia Western application is active and your Social Security Number (SSN) is on your application.
2. SUBMIT a 2021 – 2022 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by February 1, 2021 CCAP deadline at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa
• Select Virginia Western (federal code: 003760) on the FAFSA as a school to receive your FAFSA information. FAFSA help is available at 1-800-4FED-AID.
• IMPORTANT: Submitting your FAFSA does not mean it is complete. Frequently, the VWCC Office of Financial Aid will have follow-up questions for you or your parents/guardians to answer before determining the amount of financial aid you will be awarded. It is up to you to respond to these questions in a timely manner or your CCAP application will be rejected. Determination of your financial aid award is a key part of the CCAP application process.
• Starting February 1, 2021, check messages and status of your VWCC financial aid application: Log into your MyVWCC account at https://vw.my.vccs.edu Click on the Student Information Center (SIS) icon Click on Student Center>Student Message Center for communication from Virginia Western’s Office of Financial Aid Review and resolve items in your To Do List in the Student Message Center Check back frequently to determine if your FAFSA and VWCC financial aid process are complete. Look for the notification called “Financial Aid Award Determination” in your Student Message Center.
ALL questions/items related to your FAFSA and VWCC financial aid process must be resolved by April 16, 2021 for your CCAP application to be considered complete.

3. MEET academic placement requirements by February 1, 2021 CCAP deadline.
• After applying to the college (no. 1 above), visit virginiawestern.edu/ccap, select “Request for Academic Placement Evaluation.” You’ll receive a response to your request within 3 business days.
4. COMPLETE CCAP APPLICATION at virginiawestern.edu/ccap between October 1, 2020 - February 1, 2021.
• Use your “MyVWCC” login and password to access the application.
(Note: the Virginia Western application and the CCAP application are two different applications. Both must be submitted.)
